Cue venting. Why does everything have to meet on the second ____ of the month? Who started this tradition and why? I would like some variety. I have come to loathe the second week of any given month. Even when it’s fun things. Currently, my transit meetings, union meetings, committee meetings and quilting class all occur on the second something of the month. I’ve had it. That’s all. Thank you for your time.

The rich versus the rest of us
Published February 25, 2014 bling blog , Madisonia , movies , Wisconsin love 4 CommentsI just watched the documentary Park Avenue: Money, Power & the American Dream and I highly recommended it. It’s not really anything you didn’t know, but it’s a succinct and accurate and depressing and clear portrait of the incredibly scary and sad current state of the vast income inequality in this country. The movie really brought it all home – and socked it to me emotionally – when it concluded the union-busting we all know so well is at the heart of a lot of this disparity. I took a photo of the final frame for you. I’m sure you’ll find it shocking.
For about as long as I can remember, I have loved pea soup. Specifically, my mom’s, but now I really relish AO’s. It’s the only soup I have tried to make. For a long time, it was the only soup I liked. This sometimes seems weird because I don’t really like peas at all.
In any event, fast forward to a few weeks ago. Or, rather, rewind, I guess. As you know, the GAOOG is engaged and has been focusing on all things wedding. Good for her. After whirlwind trips to Temecula, Santa Barbara and Sonoma, she and her fiance have settled on a beautiful winery in the Santa Ynez valley and I couldn’t be happier for them. What could any of this possibly have to do with pea soup? Well, you’re in for a real treat with this news. They’re serving pea soup at their wedding and we’re all required to come dressed as our favorite pea soup ingredient! I think I’m going to go as a ham hock. Or maybe garlic.
Just kidding.
But, there is a connection to the tasty soup. Apparently, there is a place in the world called Pea Soup Andersen’s. And I have learned that there is an inn attached to Pea Soup Andersen’s called – wait for it – Pea Soup Andersen’s Inn. The poor GAOOG had to tell me the name of the place about ten times and I still couldn’t understand what she was saying. So she sent me a text and that’s how I finally learned of this famous venue. And now the beautiful bride and handsome groom have reserved a block of rooms at this historic spot.
I love a theme in a wedding. I love it when there are little details that all tie together and make you feel like the wedding is deliberate and purposeful and lovingly crafted. But this is a new one for me. A wedding that ties in my favorite soup? I’m in.
